Balls. I still want W7 but will probably be able to afford the one copy now... When the price drops.

Is W7 Pro E REALLY £189? Not a typo? The FULL copy? A full copy of Windows 7 pro 64-bit at £189 is not unreasonable to me, and if there are going to be discounts on THAT for pre-orders, I will be in line for a copy. My main content creation workstation is trundling along happily with XP, but the 3.5GB RAM limit (512MB PCI-E Radeon card in there too) is starting to hamper my workload!
Why do I get the feeling they are in fact upgrade prices...

They are. But it's FULL VERSION software, due to the fact Microsoft can't seem to find a way to upgrade from the IE Vista to the IE-less Windows 7 in the EU. It is only possible to do full version installs, so they've simply made the full versions the same price as upgrades would have been,
At least, that's my understanding. As it's so complex, we're probably all wrong
So, which version is the one to go for? In vista, Premium was the one you wanted - but it appears Premium is the low end Win 7 version. Anyone know?
Nope, if you have Vista Premium 7 Premium is all you need.
I just need to figure out what I'm going to do with my Vista Ultimate laptop and desktops.. don't really fancy paying what they want!
right, If I'm building a PC in July and want Windows 7.. If i pre-order will i get to use vista home premium and then when 7 gets released I can use it for the price I paid when I built my pc?
AFAIK, the Vista>7 upgrade is only for OEM system builders ie if you buy a Vista PC from a shop. If you were building a PC you could download and use the RC for use in the meantime.
I'm still confused, is the W7 that will be on offer for £49.99 a retail, upgrade or oem license?

Too expensive, and MS's approach to home multi-licensing is idiotic.... Makes me wonder if Bill didn't send an email in telling them that he thought home owners with more than 1 pc was about as likely to take off as the internet....
Give me 3 home licenses for £80 and i would be happy...
I'm also outraged at how different the US prices are to GB prices, we end up paying more than 150% at current rates (plus have you noticed on American computer shops they nearly always offer rebate - I don't think I've seen anything of the sort in the UK so not only do we pay more to start with but they also claim however much back by posting a letter). Just because the £ is stronger doesn't mean we have money to burn. And I completely agree with cordas.
And I think the 49.99 offer if for the full version, there will be no upgrade AFAIK because of this 'E' edition thing.
