No real surprise, considering that both Gateway and Packard Bell are subsidiaries of Acer

Not sure what HP have done to upset you there...

Of course, it's always possible that the Gateway one will be released here, cheaper, through different channels / retailers. It's not like that would be unusual...

£350 inc VAT or £304 without vs. £242 for a direct USD to GBP conversion.

I don't the point in any new netbook until the end of the year. Nvidia, Intel and AMD will all have new platforms out and they will have had time to mature. At the moment their is a small premium on all their new stuff and frankly its not worth it. When these new CPUs and chipset get but into good netbooks under £300 and with six cell batteries, then things can be exciting like the first wave of netbooks...

While the cost of the physical components is likely to decrease slightly, the cost of Windows 7 is expected to be $20-30 higher per unit, likely negating or indeed increasing the overall price of a netbook.
