i stopped caring when the beeb stopped transmitting BBC Basic programs on cefax!
Funny, I had almost forgotten about Teletext until 2 weeks ago when a freind slapped it on and said "Look, it makes my HDTV look old again!"
Seriously though, the internet must have virtually destroyed it a while ago......with iPhones and Blackberrys being all the rage now, I am suprised they didn't pulled the plug earlier!
We regularly check the weather on teletext while we drink a coffee in bed before getting up. I shall miss it. My phone can get weather but it is not as detailed as the teletext; i can go online with my phone and get better weather but it is not as quick or easy.
wow someone remembered it? im impressed i wonder if they just switched it off would anyone have noticed?

Does this mean even TV listings will be removed, such as Now & Next?
Hope not, I can't get Freeview in my current flat so I rely on Teletext now to tell me what crap programmes are on/coming up on the crap four channels I'm stuck with.
I guess subtitles page 888 (still remember the sign language for that) will still be around, so things like Now and next could easily remain enabled. I'm guessing it's because of the cost of maintaining the content for teletext rather than the service itself costing any money (though it might well rely on horribly aniquated computers that are causing problems with maintenance). Now and Next can be easily automated, like it is with the Now Playing on DAB radio and FreeviewQuote:

I'd used it a bit in the past, we found it good for Cinema Listings a few years back before we had any internet access, Dad still uses it for Lottery numbers too.

My family is using teletext at the moment to get live scorecard for the Ashes (for some reason the golf is taking precedence on the BBC interactive channels).
The scorecard on digital text vanishes after a while, making it a pain, but the old analogue teletext does a great job.
If you don't have a computer hooked up to your living room tv, it makes a valuable info source, and it is *much* more readable (on a tv) than most web sites. I guess the alternative will be to fire up the wii and use the browser, but cricinfo is a mess :(
It will be missed.
Plus, I just spent a load of cash upgrading a media center PC so it could do the digital text with Vista / TV Pack. Typical!
I remember teletext and im surprised it is still going tbh.
it was always so slow and i always went past the page i wanted lol.
Will Ceefax remain :P - I prefered that over teletext tbh.
