The Dell Singapore site also has the Studio 14 for about the same money.
Interesting if they bring that to UK as well.

I'm not so sure... in effect this is a classic ultra-portable, however for me its the price that swings it. £500 rather than £1500, which would have been an ultra-portable price in the pre-netbook era.

13" was the standard screen size for 4:3 notebooks a couple of years back. With the technology and manufacturing processes available today anything above the ultraportable 12" market should have an optical drive.

I'd be happy with the 14z the lucky Yanks have... 9400M integrated VGA... still good...

Sounds pretty similar to Acer's Timeline range. Personally i think 13.3" it's a little on the big side for an "ultraportable" though. I'm waiting for someone to release an 11" "netbook" with a dual core Atom/Ion set-up, 1024x768 resolution and over 5 hours battery life. That'd suit my portable needs.

Nope, presumably you'll need to pay extra for the USB one.
Just had a look on the Dell Singapore website and they get some nice machines, Inspiron 14 and Studio 14 look good. I really like the 14" size, I had an Inspiron 630m and it was great. Shame it's not more popular because it's much nicer than the 15 (and now 16") sizes that most of them are now.

apart from netbook being a current buzzword, and it having a netbooky looking keyboard i dont know why you would compare the two
