Geez you got me all worried for a moment, but actually the only bit that applies to us over here is the last paragraph pretty much. The rest of the article is great for US readers, but perhaps it could be made clearer at the start that that's the case!
Me also. Im glad there is no option but a clean install of w7 as a clean install feels so nice and fresh and quick :)
TBH if you are going to do an install? You really should just clean install and start from scratch. It saves alot of hassle and you get a nice spring cleaning too.
Keep your mydocuments on a different drive and move your outlook file too and you dont even have to presort your files. Everything on C can be blizted.
Just to make it clear to ALL this is for Windows 7 not Windows 7 E.
Windows 7 E needs a clean install BUT you do not need to have a qualifying Windows operating system installed and activated, you CAN install it on a blank hard drive.
i would have liked to have been able to upgrade from windows 7rc just so i dont lose any game saves i have but currently have stopped playing pc games as i know i will miss one save file when i reinstall and its always the game i have puts loads of hours in.
Most decent games save their data to the My Documents folder, and recent good games save that data to the user profile (%userprofile%) in Vista and 7.
For those which do neither, just back up the game folder before you wipe the drive (to a USB stick/DVDRW/2nd hard drive). Reinstall the game on 7 RTM, then empty the contents of the new game directory and replace it with the contents of the back up. You only have to be careful if hardware changes, as some games won't like the change of hardware and might not run until you delete a configuration file, but those games are few and far between.
I may buy a couple of 1.5TB drives and go for a new Win 7 install, the issue is I don't really need to.
The media constantly refer to both the upgrade options and pricing as "complex", but I've yet to see anything complex about either.
No wonder MS treat us all like dumb shmucks if we're going to be represented by our media as exactly that. :stupid:
Having used the migration wizard a couple of times recently, I will be using it to transfer my user settings at the very least.
It's quite a handy tool that does save you some stress when doing a clean install.
Annoying that there is no upgrade from RC though :(
so retailers can charge double now because they have to back up before upgrading cool ... thks Microsoft. That is one way to stimulate the economy.
hahaha
Glad i can do it all my self.
Wake me when ultimate is £40
