Could either of them have managed without their autocues?

It'll be interesting to see if this manages to upset Google's dominance. We've seen several rise and fall in the past and how Yahoo kept going is beyond me - I know they're webmail service was very popular back in the day but there's little draw these days.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

It can only be a good thing keeping a little competition in the game, only time will tell but I don't think it will have anyeffect on Googles dominance.
