EDit working now
good news can fit more games on my hard drive now
Re: News - Xbox 360 dash update compresses game file sizes?
Yeah I have the 20GB drive as I refuse to pay the extortionate price of the 120GB drive but I can only really fit one game on that. Only thing is would compression make the game take longer to load? They could also do something like removing additional content or something which isn't used much by the player which would free even more space.

Surely u can change the 20GB drive with a 2.5" drive? I sold a 60GB mine recently for £15 so I guess these are real cheap.

I still have a 20gb drive too, 140 or so retail games.. tends to get a bit messy in there.
Just enough room to backup a single game, I'll have to upgrade soon..
Just seems too pricey to me for the 120gb drive :\

Weren't Argos getting shot of the official 120GB drives for around £60. Still pricey but better than the £100 retail price.

Not that simple to replace - you need to get a specific drive then you need to download some software from the Internet to flash its BIOS. I don't see why they don't just allow you to change the drive yourself like Sony with the PS3...

Ah, I see. MS at their monopoly again.
Re: News - Xbox 360 dash update compresses game file sizes?
Sorry but I think this smells like bull.
Bungie has explicitly said for users NOT to install Halo 3 to the hard drive because of the caching the game does which makes performance worse, so why someone would then go and install it seems like a pointless task
Re: News - Xbox 360 dash update compresses game file sizes?
You can install any game, not just Halo 3 and a lot of games do load faster and the console does run quieter. I think they just gave Halo 3 as an example.

I know you can install any game, I have had the NXE since before the public beta last year, and this update since before the public beta. My point was Bungie said not to install Halo 3 because the game is designed to write a cache to the HDD then read back instead of the disc, installing to disc means it is writing from HDD to HDD and this has an adverse affect on the performance
