I've not seen anything suggesting they will even eventually - what have you seen?

The only chance is if Sandy Bridge has a quad core varient, but I don't think they've said that (could be wrong).

I think those prices are well off. They seem just to be the US price converted into GPB, which doesn't take into account VAT (+15%) or the extra costs incurred in British retailers from our greater minimum wages and those expensive consumer protection laws our retailers have to set cash aside to cover. Add about 30% to the UK price, and I think they'll be closer to the mark. A quick check on the E8400 in US vs UK markets and the E6300 seems to back that 30% estimate up, btw.

The GBP pricing is indeed a simple exchange rate derivation of the dollar trade pricing we received, not an indication of what the PIB will cost at retail.

Oh - if it's trade price, does that mean that retail will be higher still?

It would have been useful to have the TDP in that table - but Wikipedia has it so nw.

I've been looking up the i5-650, but could be tempted to the 660 instead. Looks to be a better deal. The 661 has a higher TDP (iirc), so isn't as tempting.

All this could change - of course - when I see actual reviews. (Haven't been "IT immersed" this month; have there been any reviews yet?)

The 661 has a higher TDP becuase the IGP is overclocked as well - too 900MHz from 733Mhz IIRC.

I'm really interested about power at idle. I'd like to leave a PC on all the time. (I'm lazy.) Do you reckon that the 661's idle power would be the same, as that "900MHz" isn't being used to its full?
