Sweet I live in a good area of Glasgow that will probably be hooked up, how much are we talking though, I currently pay 7.50 plus the line rental so I'd want to pay no more than 20 quid really for just broadband, 30 if I don't get a phone.
BT will cram a phone package with it though I suspect.

Still not sure why BT are shouting about 40mb/s fibre optics. Its not that fast compared to alot of developed countries. Wheres the 100mb/s line....

Re: News - BT accelerates plans for super-fast broadband in Glasgow

I still don't see the need for this massive bandwidth race between the home and the exchange. Nothing else it increasing by the same magnitude. Exchanges aren't suddenly getting 10x the bandwidth and nor are hosted internet servers.

the only thing that can really make use of that kind of connection is P2P or massive newsgroup server farms (or Microsofts download servers perhaps). If ISPs were to start mirroring content like they did in the late '90s again, then there would be a point, especially if that content was not included in any caps or FUPs. Mirrored/proxied iPlayer would make a lot of sense, same goes for Sky Player and 4OD.
