Vote with your wallet, don't support rip-off pricing!
Then add the retailers profit onto that = your £250. Tbh it wasnt overpriced at £300 and now its at £250 you could argue its a bargain and i think its absurd people are moaning about the price - as said if you dont think its worth the gold coins dont part with it and shut up, get a Wii or something...

as soonas standard blu-ray players drop to sub £100 then the PS3 will drop to sub £200. if they lower the price of the PS3 to far people who make the stand alone players would not be too happy.

Your missing the point tho... i dont care if i have a PS3 or not SONY however wants me to have one. You can say 'stop whining about the price' but that doesnt really help Sony compete against the Wii or XBox. With the current competition and the state of the economy at the moment its a buyers market and Sony are missing it completely.

Maybes it is a good price for the bit of kit but 9/10 people dont give a crap about whats under the plastic casing, they just want to play the games which is why the XBox and Wii are outselling it.

I Agree 100% with this! Sony need to do something to make me want to buy one. Their are still cheaper alternatives.

But its a completely irrelevant comparison is it not?

Its like trying to compare like for like between rocks from Tiffany's and the usual gubbins..

The PS3 comes with extra features (pretty elaborate I must say), and I know perhaps 7/10 people don't care nuts about it, but its an added feature.. one which will need added cost to build.

The tax bits are expected really, everything gets it here in Britain..

Nevertheless, I kind of understand the mentality (from some comments I heard from members here years ago)..

IIRC, I want to get maximum benefit and feature and pay near nothing (or better absolutely nothing)..

Darn, being a manufacturer now is tough..
    Me want Ultrabook

Id say its like a gold ring to a gold ring with diamonds on it... Totally relevant comparison when the main feature of all the systems is the same. 7/10 people is the most important part though, having niche features doesnt cut it anymore. Even then Sony are taking away the ability to do a lot of these things, linux being the best example... although im sure someone will find a way round it.

But despite having a DVD drive you could not play DVD movies out of the box.

The reason for this is that MS or Sony have to pay royalties to the owner of the tech.
Since most people had DVD players already they charged people who wnted the DVD movie feature by selling you a remote control that unlocked the DVD player.

I know Sony made Blu Ray. But I bet you that you that being able to watch Blu Ray movies adds a bit to the cost of the console.

That must be annoying to people who simply wanted a games console.

I bet that other features on that console also bump up the price.

Um I can confirm that my Playstation 2 played DVD's out of the box on release day and it still does. Infact it gets used more as a DVD player these days as I play on the Xbox 360 more. This is without the remote that you speak of.

It was the original xbox that required the remote and plug in ir port to unlock DVD functionality.

I remember a rumour that the very first batch of the PS2 wasn't locked down on the DVD front so maybe I got lucky if that is indeed true.

Yeah and there cheaper for a reason - they lack hardware features of the PS3 and these premium features end up giving you a premium price don't like it then buy something else. Sony obviously think there doing fine at the minute with current prices otherwise they would lower the price to cut into 360 sales. Also if you look at the hardware aspect of the consoles at the minute paying £250 for a PS3 is a mile more appealing than paying £200(?) for a 360.

On the plus side Sony are going from 65nm to 45nm. And according to engadget it uses 40% less power.

Why MS has not done the same is confusing.
