Not just the Apple TV set top box, mind you, we're talking complete big-screen displays.

    i-TV

Over priced TV from Apple - probably over heat and won't display all your TV channels, only apple one.

    Good one..

Re: News - Analyst claims Apple will one day sell TVs

If they try with tv's they will fail, the market is already full of great brands like Sony/LG/Samsung/Toshiba/Pioneer to name a few and so competition is way to high for a company that is known for producing products that are of "average" quality, no matter how good the design is they will still be poor .

Its population control. When the Ipod failed to kill off its owners Apple realised more needed to be done, they then deducted that one box could take out an entire family/room full if only they could find a way of making everyone come together near it......

    You heard it here first!

    but it will be pretty

I dont hink its far fetched at all i think its perfectly.... fetched lol. Phones are computers, steroes are computers bloody washing machine, they are the worst! Television will become a computer and it will only take one company to do it right before they all jump aboard.

    I doubt that very much...

There are too many fanboi's out there for them to fail at anything they do, if Apple marketed an iturd, quite alot of people would buy it and rant about how good it is...

Re: News - Analyst claims Apple will one day sell TVs

Apple will have to produce a TV which, as a TV, is class-leading, and do it at a competitive price, to get me interested. Otherwise, I'll stick to my preferred brands which, right now, is Panasonic for TVs.

But then, let me say, I acknowledge I'm probably not Apple's target buyer. For instance, I want my phone to make and receive phone calls. I don't want my phone to be a GPS, or a games machine, or a web browser, or an MP3 player, or a camera, or a washing machine or a personal teleportation device. I want it to make and receive phone calls, PERIOD.

The same logic applies to a TV. All I want it to do is to be a very good TV, at a sensible price. I don't want it to be an entertainment centre, a home hub, or to link with my phone, my MP3 player or control my washing machine. I just want to watch TV on it. I also don't want PVR capability built-in. Why? Because I'll pick a PVR that has the capabilities, usability, price and reputation that suits me, and not settle for a one-shop-suits-all jobbie that's probably master of none. Oh, and 'cos I've got one that, until it breaks down, suits me fine, thanks very much. Oh, and because when the TV breaks down, I don't want all the other functions broken down too.

That's why I don't want a camera in my phone. When I want a camera, I want a good camera, not a toy. When I want GPS, I want one with controls and an interface, not to mention a nice, large screen, that works well as a car GPS, not an aferthought in a phone with a screen I can barely see while driving.

When I buy a TV, I want it to be the best TV I can afford, and not to have half the cost going to provide bells and whistles I either don't want, or can get better elsewhere. As I said, I don't see myself as Apple's target market, and I'm sure I'm not typical these days, and certainly not typical on a forum like this, where the latest and greatest phones seems to be a personal challenge. For example, my current phone is one I've had several years, is very small, light, makes and receives phones calls just fine, and if I lose it .... well, it cost me £5 from ASDA and I've got a couple more in a drawer, just in case. I wouldn't be interested in an iPhone (or similar) if someone gave me one.

So ... Apple TV? Not for me, I suspect, but then, that won't much surprise anyone that knows me.

funny you should mention the issues with combining multiple devices all into the same thing. I was chattin to a good friend about it the other day and we saying it all stems back to when you have those combo VCR tvs which always inevitably had one part of it which broke rendering the whole thing useless.

Im not so sure the same theory exactly applied nowerdays however i agree... seperates all the way.

This is also the same reason I've yet to own one of those 'all in one' printer-fax-scanner-foot-massaging MFPs as they are called. They can be handy if space is an issue (in my case, that's not an issue at all) but when things do go side ways, you do lose a lot in an instant.

With regards to your comment of how you use your phone, I'd have to say I sort of agree with you there - even though I'm one of those shameless iPhone users. But how do I use my iPhone? I'd say 80% of the time it's to make, receive calls and SMS. The rest of the time I use it to tweet, access wikipedia in any emergencies and quite amusingly very very rarely for its iPod function. It think it's been almost a year since I even plugged the ear phones into it.

I guess, lots of these advertising make you believe that you "need" the latest piece of tech, that's just a gift from God. That said though, there are time I like the extra flexibility offered by the iPhone interface/OS, although mind you - I'm not running v.3.0 as I pwned mine quite a while back and don't want to loose any data (or the device itself) in the process of 'upgrading'. My philosophy is "if it ain't broke, don't tinker".

Re: News - Analyst claims Apple will one day sell TVs

Is no-one else becoming fed up of every other story being

'Analysts say that XX Co. will:

    make x new product
reduce the cost of x product
add a 20" touch screen to x product
with barely any basis, I could be an 'analyst' , what's the pay like?

This isn't just Hexus but every other site I seem to frequent, slow news month(s) ?!

On track, I don't see it as a big jump for Apple, it'll sell as a niche product for the people who can afford the inflated prices that will no doubt be charged but it won't bring anything new to the table apart from a touch of style
