this will be incredible, just like all the others. The effort that goes into the realism is crazy, and thats why its just so much fun!

GT5 gets Japanese release date- March 2010
doh
I think GT5 is going to be amazing, but Q1 is a TERRIBLE time to release it. Early 2010 looks so packed I can't even remember all the AAA titles people will be forced to buy. If anything they should delay it a bit (hey they delayed it this much already, why not some more?) to SUMMER 2010 here in the West, when NO ONE has anything new to play!

They are indeed very different games, but they're arguably Sonys biggest hitters for 2010 and they share a very similar target audience, what kind of sense does it make to release them both (if GT5 gets a similar European/U.S release date that is) within a couple of months of each other? There are only three reasons to put out more than one big first party title in the same quarter that I can fathom, and I'm not saying they're the reasons why Sony is doing what it is with GT5, they're just the only reasons that make sense to me.
1. You've got a console to launch, obviously you need strong first party support, e.g Nintendo don't launch a console without a Mario game ready in the wings.
2. You want to make your company look better than it really is by beefing up your numbers artificially. Marvel did this for months before the Disney takeover, holding certain books back almost deliberately and releasing more at the end of the month etc.
3. Somethings being released when it's ready, the game in question's been delayed long enough and the fans want it asap.
Number three fits the scenario perfectly but if you were Sony would you still go ahead and make gamers choose which of your two big franchises gets their hard earned when you can stall the release of one of them and make more money? My money's on either GT5 getting a summery release date over here rather than March or God of War 3 slipping towards summer to give GT5 a clear run.
Agreed, they'd have been much better served by having GT5 out in time for Christmas. Like Modern Warfare 2 it's got a big enough brand name to keep its head above the rest of the holiday releases and GT5 combined with the new slim PS3 would have opened up all kinds of avenues as far as advertising goes. From what I've seen so far of Sony's advertising campaign it seems to be focussed more on the fact that it does a bit of everything than on the games it plays which is a shame because a PS3 Slim+GT5 bundle if properly advertised would have made for some impressive NPD numbers come January.
