Tiny SSD could be useful for compact mini-ITX builds. Capacity is limited, though.

Well this seems more appropriate as fast portable storage solution rather than anything permanent.
Re: News - Elecom's nanoSSD plugs straight into your motherboard
I was about to berate it for blocking other SATA ports, then realised that's not likely to be an issue for target applications, because you're not going to use every port.
However, as Faiakes pointed out, an eSATA one would probably be a better idea.
Also, where does it get power from?
Re: News - Elecom's nanoSSD plugs straight into your motherboard
no power??
also it would be better if it could lie flat, mITX cases may not be able to take the height of that SSD.
Re: News - Elecom's nanoSSD plugs straight into your motherboard
Would it have been a god idea to implement a flexible SATA connector (as in some usb external drives)?
Re: News - Elecom's nanoSSD plugs straight into your motherboard
It'll probably come with a mini-SATA cable. Presumably a USB connector for power too.

You could just use a short SATA cable to lie it flat... (and position where you want)

Give them 6months / maybe a year and I am sure they will have them at 64/96/128GB and faster, I can see them selling like hot cakes especially to the big OEMs who will see it as a way to save on cables and screws whilst giving business faster pcs where they don't need large HDDs as storage and apps are networked anyway.
Re: News - Elecom's nanoSSD plugs straight into your motherboard
Looks rather like it blocks the SATA ports on either side.... FAIL +:surprised:

For big power users maybe... but...

Add in the SFF PC market and there is a pretty decent niche
Re: News - Elecom's nanoSSD plugs straight into your motherboard
Been waiting for this. Absolutely the perfect solution for my HTPC systems.
Re: News - Elecom's nanoSSD plugs straight into your motherboard
Agreed, for a nice little HTPC install with just an OS, a couple of media programs, MS office and mediaportal a slightly bigger version of this would be perfect.
Re: News - Elecom's nanoSSD plugs straight into your motherboard
Why would you need Office on a HTPC?
Re: News - Elecom's nanoSSD plugs straight into your motherboard
Maybe because the PC might serve more uses than just HTPC?
