How many more hundreds of squiddies does that add on?
Don't get me wrong, the QNAP TS-800 series is full on awesome, but the price is ridiculous. I doubt the BoM exceeds 80 quid, and the firmware for all the QNAP models is more or less the same.

£1448.99 for a motherboard, RAM, CPU and case with enclosures and software?
That is a rediculous price! I'm interested in replacing my 6 drive setup in my PC with an external NAS. This interested me until I saw the price.

Yup. for less that that I built a 18 hot swappable bay server with two real hardware RAID cards (Dell PERC 5/i cards), quad core AMD and 8GB RAM.
Although to be fair, you will always be able to build these things yourself for less. It's the appliance nature of these that makes them expensive as well as the support offered by the manufacturers. Great for corporate use, not for home use though.
