Hmmmm... media centre control, perhaps? I know nothing about these remotes, but I was looking at one of these:

Re: News - Logitech launches Harmony 700 universal remote
I had one of those gyrations about a year and a half ago. Took a week or so to get used to it and as I'd used the Go's before the movement became second nature. It was the perfect remote apart from one thing..... the 2 buttons equivalent to mouse buttons, either side of the motion activate, went pear shaped after about 6 months. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate on getting another one, if I could afford. Just don't play games with it (or let the wife) as the button will bugger up soon enough

Hmm, it's not as pretty as the Harmony One, and that's regularly for available for around £70. The One has a touchscreen too. One of the best bits of A/V kit I've ever bought. Even the Mrs likes (and can use) it!

I've got it in my head now that it's kind of like a wii controller in terms of waving it around. Is that right? Or is it more of a "fling it to the side violently, and it'll move 500 pixels each time, until you hit your target, then click" type thing?
Re: News - Logitech launches Harmony 700 universal remote
I have Harmony 525 which cost 40 odd pounds and find it brilliant for everything in one room. Took a while to set up and get right but now is a life saver. One remote to control them all.. Awesome

Wow being waiting for this for a while, thanks for the update!

you should phone up customer service they are top notch and would probably have sent you a replacement for nothing.
Agree on the harmony one I bought one and its fantastic
Re: News - Logitech launches Harmony 700 universal remote
Looks like it isn't a whole lot more than just a fixed Harmony One, so I'm not quite convinced about the pricetag. Maybe a little extra, but not that much.
I will eventually get a universal remote, but not for anything near the prices a lot of these things seem to go for.
Re: News - Logitech launches Harmony 700 universal remote
Was a little concerned for a second as I just bought a One a few weeks ago but the 700 is mightily ugly and the 900 isn't really worth an extra £200 for the colour buttons and RF.
Re: News - Logitech launches Harmony 700 universal remote
To repeat: Is the Gyration remote like a wii controller? I've told the wife I might like one for xmas, so would like to know.

I've used a couple of Gyration mice for whiteboards, and they're reasonably intelligent, very similar to Wii remotes in my opinion but a heck of a lot easier to control.
They seem much less jumpy, and you can turn on and off the motion sensor very easily which helps a lot. I just find that it hurts my wrist more than anything, so I've never really bothered.

Cheers snootyjim. I actually just found the hexus review which is (obviously) really helpful.

Yes kind of like a wiimote but a much better, smoother experience. You can wave your arm about but you quickly realise you can do it all with just a subtle movement of the wrist. You can also put it down on a surface and use it like a traditional optical mouse
