I've found nothing wrong with the original 360 wireless adaptor, apart from the price of course.
I use one for my 360 that is downstairs and can't say that I have noticed any lag or problems over my wired one upstairs.

Seeing as the normal wireless one is USB is there not just a cheap USB wifi adapter you can use instead of the expensive MS one?
I don't see the point in this over your normal unless your connection is over 54mbps (ok for some virgin media) but this will only affect during downloads and not gaming
Unless its a LOT cheaper than the current wireless add on, I doubt people will by or upgrade theirs. I'm sticking with a hard wire cable thanks! Not to mention unless your router is n, then its not much use.
