Document scanner built into the screen?

Its tiny, like 20mm thick isn't it?

    How did they manage that!

That's a bit of a cheat - the "document scanner" is the 2MP webcam:

There is also a utility to scan business cards into Outlook using the camera, with built-in OCR. Lastly, the webcam is a document scanner that can convert paper documents into digital PDFs by holding them in front of the camera.

Nice to see als well as wireless charging, also available is a wireless dock - complete with wireless monitor attachment !
All from the loop inside the laptop, no extra dongles reuqired

Wireless charging? Are we going to see more hand wringing as we did with mobile phone "radiation"?

Wireless charging is a fantasic idea, the uses for it and the technology involved will change the way we use every battery powered item.

Make that just about every electrical item in our home and work life..... It would be fantastic to be able to use all sorts of items without ever having to worry about plugging them in!

Downside must be that's it's pretty wasteful - induction (if that's what it uses) is pretty inefficient isn't it?

No less efficient than a bad PSU they claim (70%)

Remember a PSU is basically 2 small coils, this is just separating 2 large coils a bit further
    - and that stand is quite large, the laptop is sitting on it, so the 2 coils are virtually together.

Still, that's post-psu - assuming there's the usual powerbrick for AC->DC in there too - so that's 80% best case from the wall, and thenafter 70% for induction. I'm not sold on the idea really - you still need to be in close proximity to the socket, and the range as you say is basically zero.

Re: News - Dell launches first laptop with wireless charging

I puzzled over the stand design for a moment - why would you want to raise it off the floor like that. Then I realised.. heat..
