News - Sony developing wireless power with 50cm range

Reckons it can transfer 60 Watts over half a metre without wires. No indication of when, however.

That's one step-ish away from "phasers on stun" to the boys and gals from QinetiQ

<80% efficient? I'd rather just plug it in and deal with a 50cm wire...

I don't know, kingpotnoodle, upto 80% sounds good to me. I wouldn't be rich enough to enjoy this technology, if it ever gets to the masses, until it is used by almost everyone. By which time, it would be much better.

Sod efficiency. No wires is where it's at! I'd go for this if it was 20% efficient.

This tbh. I'd be hoping for a little more range though, 4m would be big enough for a room, and ace.

Re: News - Sony developing wireless power with 50cm range

Stuff using it to power devices 50cm away, make it so the top of your desk can charge your mobile, laptop etc while your sat at the desk without wires, would save the idiots here having 3 chargers for everything, one in the office, one at home and one in the laptop bag....
