Yes I bought it, it cost me £34.00 included extended download service for Windows 7 Professional Upgrade. And yes it is worth it.
However I had to do some console magic to turn the downloaded data into a bootable ISO image, but that didn't take to long, quicker than waiting for a disk to shiped to me from the suppliers anyway.
I also payed £72.99 for a retail copy of Windows 7 Home Premium for my HTPC.
So... Lower retail price = More Sales + More Profit. Lets hope other companies follow up with great promotional offers, especially those who claim they have been hit hard by piracy.
All the people I know that have been running pirated MS operating system, in many cases dating back to 3.1, have purchased win7. With the pre orders, and various deals its just not worth the hassle of pirating.
Wow. That's a change. The price is actually reasonable? People are willing to pay for it?
Microsoft, hear that, people think paying £200 for your OS is bad, but are happy to pay up to around £70... maybe there is a wee hint in there for you somewhere.
The thing I like the best is the differences between Operating Systems versions actually make sense. Like it used to be you had to buy Vista Ultimate if you actually wanted a half decent experience on your machine. Now Home Premium is actually more than enough for everyone.
got it all installed a couple of days ago, got to say im a big fan. so easy to use aswell
Whilst I agree that the low price was a winner on this particular launch, you have to take into account the very long and favourable Beta that Windows 7 enjoyed with everybody singing its praises - if Vista had launched with the same pricepoint would people have jumped onboard ... personally I don't think so.
Another master-stroke in marketing from Microsoft methinks ... though will be interesting to see how they go about following it up next time as customers will expect a similar deal.

I bought two copies of 7 at £45 each in the first round of preorders. That's up from zero copies of Vista.
If my calculations are correct, that's an increase of infinity% in terms of units and revenue, what are Microsoft worried about...? :P
For this and other 'special' maths lessons please send a Western Union transfer c/o the (lately deposed) crown prince of Nigeria.
I got Windows 7 Professional for free from the MSDN alliance at my university :D. I should also note that I never got Vista at any point and have went straight to win 7 from XP Pro.
Work can can get me W7 for free (any flavour) but I still won't touch it though...
Ubuntu is the way forward for me.
I paid £45 for Home premium retail and I think it is worth the cost.
It works very well.
the only problem ive noticed so far is that the installed updates list resets itself sometimes.
its not really an issue tbh and im sure it will be fixed soon.
maybe one day windows will have a packagement system as good as APT but then again I thinking that is just a pipe dream.
