In accord with the admin\'s wishes, could we take discussion of ethics and the focus group to the whatever the "Off Topic" or "General" forum is here? I\'d be happy to discuss wht focus group is and isn\'t. In regard to the above, no one points me where to go, and no one directs me what to say.
I operate very independently in my real career, and am very independent at this. This isn\'t even my primary hobby- I fish and/or hunt 2-4X a week, spend a lot of time at my fishing shack and doing things with my young son. I\'m lucky to have a career that gives me an excellent work/life balance.
I\'m in this thread because I don\'t think we can say Fermi is "delayed" yet as I believe NVIDIA has only said it would be out Q4 2009, which ends in January for them.
I still believe we will see a Fermi launch with parts for sale in that time frame, and don\'t believe the March/April doubters. Time will tell, but there\'s 3 whole months before NVIDIA\'s Q4 ends, and I read they had begun production last month. It\'s not outside the realm of possibility we\'ll see parts by Christmas, and for sure by CES. Even if A2 has low yields I\'d think they would be making chips while they re-spin as they surely know they\'re racing TSMCs yield problem for the holiday season.
Re: News - NVIDIA\'s Fermi delayed again
So NV will be "pulling an AMD" as you put it earlier with the Pheonoms?
Guess thats really dependent on if A2 silicon is useable or requires heavy patching. A respin is going to push it out to march dependent on if they rush it or not.
From an engineering standpoint i hope they dont rush it. They will end up with another g84 scenario otherwise.
From a fiscal viewpoint they need to hit a launch date.
So I still bet it will be paper launch with an engineering sample or a2 silicon, and further availablity in later months.

I don't see where I said they'd release faulty parts like the original Phenoms, I said I'm hoping they'll get some product out the door in Q4 even if yields are low. (more like the HD5870 launch)
Given the specs we've seen, this has the potential to be the most important graphics launch to date, I wouldn't be exagerrating to say people are pretty excited about it.
Their CEO said production will really ramp up in Q1, so I think we can safely assume the market won't be flooded with Fermi parts for the holiday season. I'd just like to see some gaming benchmarks and review samples in the wild personally! I can pretty easily stay put with my 295s/260s/etc but it would be nice to see what these things can do with those new SPs.:)

im sure you would, going to need actual cards and not shiny mockups for that though eh?

so do snipers, they are still in the same army
Re: News - NVIDIA's Fermi delayed again
given the changes in fermi... I dont believe its a gamers card. For science and folding it should be a screamer. If its 10% faster in games over the 295's i'll be surprised.

Gamers first eh? hmm.

Urm werent they quoting nearer 768 GigaFLOPS? Looking like a 20% performance hit already. Is this yeild issues? Is this oops our sterling design doesnt work?
Lets hear the insider news then. Cos it oughta be good.

Oh well guess no one cares anymore. /me wanders off.
Re: News - NVIDIA's Fermi delayed again
I won't care until nVidia can actually produce a card I can buy, so that I can decide if I want to buy it.. And even then i'm going to ignore it if my current system still plays everything new just fine (which it does now).
As far as i'm concerned it's vapourware until it's at retail and in the hands of reviewers with real numbers in non-synthetic benchmarks.

I agree with this- some real benchmarks by independent reviews sites are needed. There's not much point in speculating based on workstation card synthetics, rumors of delays, etc..
Hopefully as we've seen a picture of a GF100 running a bench they're putting together some engineering samples for review sites. (and more importantly, me!)
Re: News - NVIDIA's Fermi delayed again
Also lets hope Nvidia also gets around to releasing some DX11 midrange cards for us gamers who won't spend Ā£200+ on a graphics cards!!
Re: News - NVIDIA's Fermi delayed again
Nvidia is still having problems with Fermi as rumor states. Nvidia will obviously not say anything about delays or there stock will drop a lot. I say expect it to get released sometime in mid Q2 2010 and buying availabilily in around late Q2 2010. :surprised:
