I'd buy something like this as long as it is no more expensive than a normal DVD. I can't see that happening for a while.

Re: News - Universal combines Blu-ray and DVD on all-new Flipper discs

Like all good ideas, this is a wonderfully simple solution to the problem. Given the choice today between buying a film on DVD and on a 'flipper disc' at a (reasonable) premium, I'd go for flipper every time because I know I'm going to get a Blu-Ray player in the next 18 months - and I'm sure there are lots of other people in the same situation.

It will have to be substantially cheaper than buying both the DVD and Blu-Ray sperately, though...

I doubt it, it will probably be a way to get normal DVD buyers conditioned to the £15+ blu ray prices and then one day drop the DVD format and move over to Blu Ray altogether.

I'll wager the price will be vastly inflated. Genius... not.

The idea is a good one, but as said I can hardly see them selling it at a DVD price when you get blu-ray too. So it will work out as expensive DVDs until they upgrade the Blu-ray (assuming they haven't scratched the blu-ray side too badly by then)

They should be no more expensive than the Blu-ray equivalent by rights, but we all know that won't happen.

Re: News - Universal combines Blu-ray and DVD on all-new Flipper discs

I have a few US HD-DVD's like this and it is actually useful, it all depends on price. £1 more than the usual blu-ray I am in, anything more and I don't care as its more use to friends etc to watch.
