It baffles me why this hasn't been done for FPS games ages ago. It's relatively simple to do, requires very little hardware, and it's certainly not a new idea. I'm rather saddened that Apple is potentially the first to patent the idea.
Here's a video on head tracking (which is all this idea is) from 2007 using a Wii remote and the Wii "sensor" bar:

It is awesome stuff

Apparently, "innovative" now means "done by some university students with an FPGA and a webcam". After patenting mobile VNC, Apple looks to be turning into quite the patent troll.
The technology described in the patent has been around for over 10 years. The patent had better not get granted.
"In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship."
This is really bad if it gets granted without any contest, and its not remotely innovative, back at sixth form a friend of mine did something similar using his glasses and a white tag. Took him a day or so to write the code.

thanks Fraz, that video was mind blowing. So amazing.
Apple patents the obvious, then sues everyone
