10 years BEFORE the first game, surely.

Edit: No, hang on, that's confusing. Multiplayer appears to be before the first game, and yet in the second you play the "first" big daddy. How's that possible if it's 10 years later?

They changed it during development - it's now set after. You're the first big daddy.. still - ie, he survived.

Multiplayer is the civil war before bioshock.
