Larger capacities, faster speeds and TRIM support on offer. Still pricey, though.

No continued Trim support for the previous gen. Yeah, didn't see that coming *rolls eyes*.
There's a lot of threads out there where people have been asking Kingston whether updated firmware would be released (for Trim reasons), and not getting a straight answer.
Still, happy with my 40gb boot drive with Vista.
Re: News - Kingston launches second-gen SSDNow V+ solid-state drives
This review suggests a Toshiba controller.
I'm still trying to work out which of their benchmarks will give me any real idea of boot drive performance.
Re: News - Kingston launches second-gen SSDNow V+ solid-state drives
I'm looking at buying an SSD in about 3 weeks time, but right now nothing is stopping me from going with the Intel, almost by default rather than because I know its going to be best performance per £ for what I want.
That makes me a sad panda, hopefully we will see some good reviews of this soon (*HINT* hexus get one *HINT*)
Re: News - Kingston launches second-gen SSDNow V+ solid-state drives
Well, the trend continue: newer, we are getting newer ever slightly better drives (in feature and performance - allegedly, but I see no reason not to believe), yet price per GB remains more or less the same.

But then, we know SSDs are where the performance is at.
No, it's not. For performance think of the iRam or the ACard - look at the PCMark 05/Vantage world records, all done on iRams and ACards. Yes, not very practical and more expensive, but my point is against your claim of performance. :angst:

Tricky one as the older Kingstons retailing at £121 have Read 100MB/s, Write 80MB/s and these new ones 230MB/s and 180MB/s - so better than twice the speed for around £18 more
The £99 Intel is only 40gb against Kingston's 64gb and the speeds are not up to the Kingston with 200MB/s & 70MB/s so I think that the jury is still out. We need an SSD with the Kingston's write spec to be priced sub-£100 to have a killer drive (quote me on that in two years time)
Like you though, a true comparison, and not just spec sheets, is needed before I can make my mind up . . . typical Libran . . . (*HINT* hexus get one *HINT*)
:juggle: and then go for two in Raid 0 with the Lycom ST-139F ?

Ah this is for a laptop so i'm wanting 160GB~ ish, mabye even go for 260 one, budget might stretch far enough for that.
Don't care about power much, just want ultra fast speeds

You're looking at the wrong numbers though (well if you want a boot drive) as sequential read/write is pretty much irrelevant for the OS drive - look at random read/writes on 4k files for a better picture. There's a reason why intel drives are sought after - they focused on what mattered rather than what looked good on the marketing flyer.
There's a new OCZ 30gb ~85quid drive out I think too..
P.S. Kingston are bastards for shafting us 40gb owners on TRIM support, especially given it's got a sodding intel controller.

Agreed they are bastards for doing that but it's pretty simple to do a manual "trim" every now and again IIRC.
Re: News - Kingston launches second-gen SSDNow V+ solid-state drives
Intel shafted their own, i doubt Kingston are going to mind.

Out of interest, how would you recommend doing it? HDDErase or something?
Re: News - Kingston launches second-gen SSDNow V+ solid-state drives
Except you'd have to erase everything. TRIM just stops the need for a re-format to get back up to speed. Suppose it can't be that much of a hassle on a small drive with just an OS on it anyway ?
Re: News - Kingston launches second-gen SSDNow V+ solid-state drives
My HTPC OS drive takes about 4 mins to restore with acronis - about the same to backup.
