Only a specific stretches of the Autobahn have no speed limits, not all of them though.

Incidentally, I live very near the M42, right by the variable control bit, and can confidently state that most of the time, the limit in force has nothing to do with traffic conditions.
"Road clear? Yep? OK, let's whack on a 50mph limit for the fun of it. We're a couple £thousand down on our budget this month"
Seriously.

I hate the M42! they are sneeky gits and I may complain...
The road is clear and they then stick 5 signs on like this
60 - 60 - 60 - 50 - 60
That is just trying to catch you out and make money, there is no reason at all for the signes to be on and why the sudden dip to 50 after 3 60s? Its so bloody obvious.

Er no. People actually seem to obey average speed checks - they don't make any money at all.
I think they're a great idea - they really reduce accident rates, and help the traffic move a more constant speed (but with flexibility).
If the problem is you think 70mph is too low then the argument should be about increasing the national speed limit, not enforcing something that's already in place and agreed to.
Then why not just remove the old cameras and/or up the speed limit? The increasingly-popular method is said to be favourable to traditional fixed-point cameras, with the SDC suggesting they prevent drivers from slowing down briefly to avoid detection, and consequently prevent sudden braking and quick acceleration - both of which deter from smooth, environmentally-friendly driving
I still find it amazing that after all the advances in car technology (ABS, PAS, computer correction, better rubber, better breaks, etc etc) that the speed limit is still the same after how many years now?
Cars are light-years ahead of where they were when I was a child, yet the same 70mph limit of motorways persist.

As above cars are so much better now, the limit on motorways should be 90-100mph, I have no problems on smaller road as stopping distance and people etc all add up. But the motorway is a different type of road.
I am sick and tired of the goverment using small minded stealth tactics to extort money from the working man. Many years ago they tried to tax people on the number of windows they had, needless to say the people bricked them up to save money. The goverment also used to charge tax on fuel to use the roads and then they deciced to introduce car tax as well!. Did they stop the tax on fuel..no! It will not be long before the people that can leave this once "Great Britain" will go. In the not so distant future this lone isle will be a "no go" area and a pit of trouble. The "Great" in britain will be pushed out by the do-gooders that have been allowed to grow in the libreral environment. When will this stop and common sense prevail. Thanks. From a person whose family fought for this country, for what it is worth!
How much CO2 will be produced installing all these cameras?
How much CO2 will be produced running and maintaining them?
How many years will it take for the reduction in car emissions to "pay" or "offset" the expenditure in CO2 of this system?
Anyone else want to vote for "never"?![]()
What a stupid idea.
what am I supposed to do with my RX8 now, it loves going over 100 MPH![]()

The Blue Meanies have hijacked the Greenie's cause as a politically correct excuse to fine the hell out of you.
Odd thing is, the Greenie's cause is flawed anyway, they're fools, but most folk thing they're good people.
They're not good people, at best misinformed and at worst Nazis who want you to use a horse and cart and outlaw airlines. Dangerous.
