October 2010now need to get a new HD telly with 6 HDMI inputs

Like a few others on here it is already available for me which seems a bit silly when there's no way to actually watch them yet unless you've got test/trial boxes.
HEXUS.lifestyle: UK's first Freeview HD receiver arrives at retail
Shame it isn't a PVR, but it's a start.![]()
Apparently Sept 2010 for me but I can only just manage to get bbc 1 & 2 on freeview the signal is so bad, still better than none with analogy.
Firstly, they need a new tuner......newer tech always costs more (R&D recoup)
Then, the processing power needed to decode MPEG4 is helluva lot more then is needed for MPEG2. MPEG4 STB chips are really new, pretty much exclusively used for BluRay players currently....
Now throw into the mix the MPEG2 STB chips whose performance hasn't really changed in the 15 years they have been sold and refined since the first DVD player released......and you probably have your reason for the price disparity![]()

Then we can also add in the HD output components, probably and upscaler for SD content to be shown on HD screens without them changing mode (I don't know how well TVs handle the change in resolution). The processor for better a menu system, this will be much more responsive and look a hell of a lot better than any of the cheap Freeview STBs.
