WHOLEY MOLEY!
Thats about right for a USD to GBP, with VAT!......... What's going on!?!
this must be lies.

They've realised the usual overpricing won't work due to the luke-warm (cold!) reception the iPad has already had.
Looks foward a few months...
So its due to stock shortages it didn't sell well...
I agree, Apple are being aggressive with the UK pricing. Given it is really a product with its own bespoke limited market, they could have charged £500 and the market will be the same since only people who really really want this would get it.
So are they trying to persuade the person who is looking to buy a good quality netbook (e.g. Toshiba NB305 £350) vs this (Apple iPad 16GB Wifi £389)? Lol.

Bear in mind that the cost to manufacture one of these things is $229 - $346 dollars, running from the lowest spec one through to the highest. £389, which is ~£330 without VAT is still a massive markup on the lowest spec iPad:
Cost to build = $229. Sale cost pre-VAT = £330 = $494
So, at least a 2:1 markup.
i think £400 is too overpriced - it really needs to be sub £300. its really nothing special even if apple tell you it is.
The problem is in many ways this might be their own worst enemy.
Apple make gadgillions on the ipods.
This will squeeze the gap a bit if it comes down. Why pay £120 for something thats not as good as the £200 pad, which is what the price would have to be for me to rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish my hard gottern on it.

That's not gonna happen - Apple have said that there is no flash support so all those pr0n websites are a no-go
I can see it selling as people always want the latest "apple" device, but to me this is more of a glorified e-book reader designed for surfing the web while drinking a frappachino deluxe at starbucks or another coffee house which offers free wi-fi.
I bet people will get bored pretty soon once they have these and place them for sale on the usual places shortly after.
