VM can't supply a reliable 10/20Mb service, they'd be better off resolving these issues before running after some free advertising for a non-product.

Re: News - Virgin Media to demo 200Mb/s broadband tomorrow

well i get a reliable service now, used to have a solid connection since ive had a telewest/NTL line(its the same company) its only for december and for a few months this year has it been terrible, seems VM fixed that now i have a stable 10mb connection again .

Id rather them stop trying to boast so much about higher download speeds when really we dont need it... we need higher upload speeds! If that improved the even the general public would appreciate it as they could transfer their files on msn and all that to friends/family for say photos to them quicker!.

But im not gunna say i wouldnt drool at the e-peen from having a 200mb connection .

QFT, I wish they would spend money on getting to more than the 50 people they currently service! We have a cable that services the first 4 houses in our cul-de-sac, presumably because they tap off from the cable in the main road. Yet they can't be bothered to do our road. Grrrrrrr.

Re: News - Virgin Media to demo 200Mb/s broadband tomorrow

I am not saying its completely pointless, but my my talk talk 'upto' 8mps connection is more than fast enough for browsing and more than fine for downloads. For me downloads form good connections top out at around 450kb/s which each though even larger files quickly.

    I must not have a big e-peen.

Sorry, I should rephrase. VM can't supply a reliable 10/20Mb/s service without draconian shaping.

    My bad.

    True,

However VM 50Mb service currently has no restrictions, I am just hoping that when the 100Mbs / 200 Mbs is launched then they also keep these unrestricted.

Indeed, though they have already publicly stated that shaping will come to 50Mb at some point in the future. I'm guessing there aren't enough 50Mb users to require it as yet.

I suspect that when 100->200Mb/s comes out it'll arrive, as this will be a selling point of the higher tiers, just as 50Mb is now.

It's just a shame I found upgrading from 20Mb where my ping was like 26ms to 50Mb dropped my Ping to 50ms! Whats it going to drop to when they hit 200 - 100ms? - gamers beware.
