Sweet :)
Would be wicked if we could find out how loud the cooler really is...

Noise & Power hogging really puts me off these new cards that both NVIDIA and AMD bring along. sigh!

power levels of a 5850 aren't anything bad, better than the previous gen really, remember due to the way AMD's tech works, it doesn't actually often pull the full 180W(the 5870) unless you're running furmark, under gaming load you're closer to 150W. Considering its the same performance at 2x 4890's, which would run you not far off 400W, its more power efficient than last gen not worse.
As for noise, the 5850/5870 are essentially silent at stock, and most are very quiet under load, louder than idle but not much. Its certainly not loud enough to ruin gaming, the 480gtx is another matter.
I've had a 4870x2, a 3870x2, a 2900xt, a 8800gtx, a 5850, and a 4890(the 4870x2 just ran too hot in a south facing room with flat roof, hot water tank, 2 comps and 3 screens :p). The 5850 is the quietest of ALL of them at stock and under load, even heavily overclocked and overvolted to get 950/1250 speeds, which are well above what a 480gtx will provide after overclocked in terms of performance(thats a 31% overclock or so) the fan can be set quieter than the past 3 generations of cards.

Am I the only one that finds it amusing that someone called oilsheikh is bothered about power usage :D

The temps in my stsem dropped 3C when I moved from 4890 to a 5870.

AMD 5870 - 180W
GTX480 - 289W
old tech,
AMD 4870 - 180W
GTX285 - 204W
It's only the nVidias which have gone up, despite both the new techs being ~2x as powerful
