Oh I think steam is great. Originally. But the digital download boom is over, now it's a tool for keeping games in one place and up to date as far as I'm concerned as I still buy boxed copies, sometimes half, or a third of the price that they are available on steam. Internet and brick-and-mortar are fighting back. :3
I wasn't talking about you specifically, just a lot of people generally who've been moaning and complaining about the new interface and saying they preferred the old one.
I agree with you... sort of at least. I don't buy games from Steam at full price - recently I've bought Trine for £4, GTA IV for £5, ages ago bought the Orange Box for around £10. You get the picture. Bricks and mortar can't compete with those prices, which are a direct result of the download only situation. Outside of the sales though, yes, Steam charges far too much.
Although you bought GTA EfLC the other day on Steam?
I also enjoyed that offer at christmas . 191 hours of playtime on that so far, works out at 2.6p an hour.
And about the Steam thing, personally, I think they should allow you to use the old interface, if you really want to, but I've been using this beta since it was released and I love it.

No, you're right - in that case I did, although it's probably the first time I've bought a game as soon as it's come out on Steam.
I didn't realise it was standalone at first, so thought it made sense to get it together with GTA IV on Steam. Thankfully, it was only £5 extra which I don't mind too much, was much more convenient for me than buying via alternative methods.
I did the same thing, I thought it would "merge" in some way like the GfWL one does. The one from Games for Windows Live was only a 3.3GB download though, compared to the 16.6GB from Steam .
I don't usually mind Steam, it's far more convenient, all my games are always in the same place, they're always up to date, no matter how much I play them or anything, the discs never get scratched and the list just keep growing .
22 Games in the list now.
The one thing that's bugging me about the integration issue (maybe this is getting a touch off-topic ) is that despite downloading the entire thing again, for a standalone DLC, I've got to share save slots with the original game.
How on earth does that work? I mean, save slots are a console phenomenon in the first place. With virtually unlimited HD space on a PC, you can do as much saving as you want - heck, even the PS3 allows unlimited saves with games these days. So GTA IV having a limit was odd in the first place, and for the DLC content to then share those slots with the original game is even more ridiculous.
I have my own opinions on GTA, but this is about steam redesign, at the end of the day I won't have an opinion till I try it, I just hope they haven't bloated it like most services do in their "upgrades"
Going back to Steam, is this update the same as the one which has been in beta for the last few months? If so, I've got no problem with it. It does exactly the same thing as the previous client except that it's a bit shinier and comes with a few new features.
One thing I really noticed was that the overlay mode in games works better now than it ever did before.
Yeah it's the beta, and I agree - can't understand why people don't like the interface to be honest. The overlay is much better as well, use it all the time now whereas before I avoided it altogether.
Yeah they fixed that a while back, affected a lot of people though.

Yeah, if you're running the beta now you'll be running pretty much the final release, they'll maybe make a couple of small tweaks over the weekend but this is pretty much it now.
The overlay is brilliant, it looks loads nicer and the new browser is brilliant for finding cars and jumps on GTA Multiplayer..
I've been doing that a lot... also, in certain games, I've been copying cheats off the internet, then pasting them into pastebin on the overlay. Mount & Blade particularly, man that game is annoying at first.
Found a guide on the net though on how to mod it to fix a few of the annoying issues, so probably won't need to do that again.
