I have old games which give you a solid 2 weeks of game play, to play it once, and that doesn't even cover the entire scope of the game.. When did we start considering 16 hours 'impressive'? :/

Re: News - Alan Wake clocks in with 10-16 hours of gameplay

I was listening to the eurogamer podcast this morning & Ellie mentioned the NDA was until the 5th/6th next month?

I agree 16hours is impressive compared to something like MW2 but that doesn't mean it's a decent length, I think I'm in my 60th hour on Fallout 3 at the moment, my last playthrough was 70hrs, now THAT's worth £50 for a game!

I expect 30 hours before I start to think "impressive".

10 is bordering on unacceptable for a full price title.

Re: News - Alan Wake clocks in with 10-16 hours of gameplay

Is it right you should be comparing a RPG's scope to this action/adventure genre game ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: News - Alan Wake clocks in with 10-16 hours of gameplay

particularly given the amount of time this game has been in development, 16 hours seems a rather short offering.

Re: News - Alan Wake clocks in with 10-16 hours of gameplay

I think it would depend on how much time you spent playing games. If you play 5-6 hours a day then 10-16 hours might not seem alot.

If you only play 30 minute sessions then I suppose the game could seem worth it.

Well I should really reserve my judgement until I play it or scan over a few reviews but I don't see why it having a long development time should mean more hours. '16 hours' will probably fit it nice considering the episodic way the game plays out.

Also, you make it sound like you've been donating them money over the last few years and so deserve a long playing period.

Re: News - Alan Wake clocks in with 10-16 hours of gameplay

I realise RPGs are longer but I was under the impression alan Wake would be longer than a generic FPS, with the 'amazing' storyline (I'll reserve judgement on that until I play it) I think it should be longer, the things I've heard about it since the days when it was first announced made it sound like a longer game.

Also why shouldn't people expect a lot for game for their money? No-one donates but to expect a lot from a game that's been around for a long time & people are hyped about isn't too much of a stretch no?

I'm not saying you shouldn't have certain expectations for you money - but when you've yet to part with any it sounds borderline troll.

I fail to see how you reach that conclusion (& don't appreciate being likened to a troll thankyouverymuchly) Your post evens says you agree people can/should have expectations! If they're found to be wrong (as in this case for me at least) then it's a disappointment

People went mental over MW2's £55 RRP (which never really materialised in the end anyway) for 6hours (I'm talking SP here) & from what I recall everyone pretty much thought it'd only be that long anyway.
I expected Alan Wake to have a longer play time than 10hours considering the type/scale of the game. As I've said though I'm going to reserve judgement, it may be the best 10hours I've ever had playing a game or it might leave me wanting more, I'm not sure if its long enough to 'get into' a game which has been described as an intense atmospheric thriller

I think I was on an Athlon 2400+ when this was announced, they said it needed a dual core CPU & I didn't think i'd ever get to play it, oh how times have changed! (although there has been a LOT of time since the game was announced! )

I clearly said expectations for your money, the money you are yet to part with. And while I wasn't referring to you in particular, people are moaning (trolling ?) about the play time and is very fanboy like.

But, I too have been looking forward to it since it was announced! A point of contention though could be the games apparent sub-HD display - that I would of expected to be sorted in 5 years worth of development time.
