Given the large profit margin apple will be making and no r&d to recoup - it is just a big iphone after all - it's all win for apple.

I don't actually have an iPad but I considered it the other day when I took my girlfriend to get one..
They're seriously nice .

looks *very* nice..definitely the sort of device i'd go for over the ipad, having a few major advantages:

1) It's got a stylus! This is the biggest thing that the iPad misses out on.
2) It can run windows..the second biggest thing the iPad misses out.
3) It can play HD video, at HD resolutions!
4) It has a USB port.

I am still hoping that Apple will unveil the iPad HD next year with all but #2 of that list included, but if they don't..i would be sorely tempted by an eeepad.

The reason I ask Matt is that I am at a crossroads of sorts. My gaming rig has died and paying around £600 to get a PC up and running again to use the Q6600 and the 4GB memory I have now is just a little to much these days as money is tight.

I am more than happy to use the 360 for gaming these days now that I am used to the pad but just wondering on your experience of using OSX when you were such a heavy PC user. I have the option of getting a Mac Mini through work for a lot less than retail due to education pricing and then I could dual boot it with Windows 7 and parallels in order to get on with work.

I am just not sure if I could live in OSX most the time for working daily. I use OSX daily at work but nothing major etc. Also thinking with Steam on Mac now and most the games I was playing on the PC turned out to be the likes of World of Goo, Peggle and Plants Vs Zombies. Building another gaming rig would be a waste as it would sit there doing nothing. I need to do something soon as working on the netbook as a daily machine is starting to make me want to throw it out the window

Why would it cost £600 to rebuild your PC??

You could build a better system for around £400 if you re-use your RAM.

If you are not gaming you could build a decent one for around £300.

Was coming from the angle of building a new machine based around the Q6600 and the DDR2. I was looking at a 902 Antec case, Asus P5 mobo, modular psu, cooler and a 5800 series card. I was tempted to build another shuttle sized machine but this time with the Q6600 and then some basic card that would allow me to do the video editing and crunching that I do etc.

Just not sure which route to go down.

Another alternative would be to do a build based around the Silverstone SG05 or the Lian Li PC-Q07 or PC-Q08. Maybe if you ask the question in the hardware section you could some pointers towards a relatively low cost SFF build.

Also, you could always add a better graphics card later as many of the mini ITX motherboards have an IGP.

This is what I am not entirely sure what the case is with the shuttle. I had an issue with my 8800GTS 512MB (mainly in the form of mass failure and artefacts from the bios right through to boot) card in there so I bought another one from Ghee Tsar from here and 20 minutes later that one was fried to and so hot to touch I blistered my finger tips.

Tested the cards and they are indeed fried, the memory and cpu are working fine from testing. I am not sure of going down the shuttle route again as this one only lasted 21 months :/ I am thinking either I have a bad PCI-E slot/mobo damage or the PSU has gone on the shuttle but can't risk throwing money at new psu's and the like in case its not at fault in the first place.

I think what has killed the shuttle was the heat we had a week or so ago. The room was sitting at 29c as it gets the sun all day and I started playing BC2 and thats when it all started. Already killed 2 8800GTS's so can't really afford to go down the route of trial and error finding out exactly what is at fault with the shuttle.
