Well when you look at the 30" set-ups, the price difference isn't that bad.
Two nice 30" dells will set you back £2,000+
Depending on the quality of the screens, and the adjustability of the rig, I could easily see myself punting for this.

None of which apply to me (i think I'd just get confused with 6 copies of the same photo on screen at the same time)
£530 per monitor?! That's pretty bloody high, even if they do have amazing colour representation.
3000:1 ratio, 8ms response time.. They're bloody awful!

Typically if it was broadcast the third would be an HDSDI monitor costing considerably more than a PC monitor anyway...
The stands cost a hideous amount if you buy them separately. I'm guessing that's a part of it.
Agreed though. I don't know the exact pricing, but 3*U2711 > 6 monitors. Especially since spending 3 grand on a monitor I can't play an FPS on would be a bit more than rubbish.

Good price but crappy idea.
I understand nVidia's 3x1 to create a more surround experience, ATI are killing the whole point by effectively returning the aspect ratio back in the direction of a normal set-up. The rows aren't tilted or anything so they're not exactly contributing to an above/below surround feeling. Instead you get a big black line where your crosshair should be. You may as well have three larger monitors with higher resolutions.

There are plenty of real-world uses (some of which have been demonstrated above) which [i]would]/i] make use of more than 3 displays. I'd love to be able to justify it for photography (1 panel for Lightroom, another for the Lightroom Loupe view, a couple of photos in Photoshop and one with palettes... and one spare for whatever else you have on at the time. Clearly none of that is needed for me and I'm certainly not going to consider it, but I'd still love to play with that setup.
You can't tell the true performance of a monitor from those figures.
There is NOTHING wrong with an 8ms response time too....

I notice the difference between my 8ms and 2ms monitors.. Easily. So I think it all just depends on opinion really.
