Re: News - As leaked: Apple launches iPhone 4

3GS with a few bells and whistles 2 years in the labs for them to come up with technology which has been out for years.

Nice screen although bit small other than that not really much difference and certainly nothing that jumps out to convert me. I like the look of the phone but will it be durable only time will tell I suppose, but atleast it may be something for the Apple fanbois to rave about for a month or two. HTC and other manufacturers are bringing out new trechnology and features every month shame it will probably take Apple another two years to implement it and call it their own.

Would like to get one in my hand to see what its like but to be honest cant see it being any different than any other iphone as the specs dont make me wowzer....

    Typical Apple device...

Take the styling of a Nokia N78, make it a little shinier and slimmer, bundle it up with truck loads of hyperbole and a few more "magical" features that everyone has been doing for years... use someone else OS name (iOS = Cisco) and then flog it for a huge amount of money, way more than it deserves, oh and then to add functionality have an App store as the only way, so you MUST pay more to customize.

The one NEW thing here is the screen, which for a few months is class leading... just... and the real apple innovation has always been it's marketing, they are the masters of polishing a turd.

hmm did take a while indeed ... they didnt put it in for a reason, so people will buy there next release with the "Fix" and added re-invented extra's...

It's 1.6x as much screen real estate. This is pointless, if you don't use email, internet or things like Excel, needing to view as much on the screen at once as possible. Which makes it not pointless to most people

Certainly a huge step up from the previous iPhones where even when the physical size of the words on the screen should be big enough to read, you have to zoom in because the pixel density isn't high enough to display it.

    Well that's my 3G 16gb sold, roll on the 15th so I can pre-order!

Can anybody tell me what other 2 year old phones you could sell today and still get back close to £200...?

I see this new phone as an investment, they'll probably do a refresh like the 3GS in a year's time and i'll skip that and be ready to upgrade again in another 2 years.

Looks good. But that's about it.

They could have incorporated all these features in the 3GS but hey, if you can get the fanboys to buy a few more phones, why the heck not.

mmmmmmmmm.. artificially high resale prices based on artificially high sale prices.

The cost of my phones have never exceeded £100, so I don't haemorrhage money as soon as I buy it. I know my phone will be worth around £0 when it's time to get a new one, that's the point. I don't want to lose £400 buying £600 phone and hoping that I get £200 in 2 years. I have saner things to do with £500.

My last phone cost about 20 - 30 quid. It makes phone calls and sends texts - that's enough for me

Re: News - As leaked: Apple launches iPhone 4

Alright, I read a bit about it, display sounds good, I kind of like the design compared to the older versions. Other then that, it's nothing nothing new compared to the high end phones that have been out there for quite some time. but I love how Apple markets this crap, "you'll make phone calls like you've never made before, I'm in heaven" blah blah.

But even funnier is people get drawn in to it all.

And this is what their actual slogan is:

iPhone. This changes everything. Again. [And again, and again, and again]
When is too much hyperbole too much?

The IPS screen, faster processor, improved battery life, improved iOS and nicer physical design.

OTH,the lack of flash support is still a downside IMHO as is the restricted nature of the OS compared to Android.
