    A SAS or FC SSD... this is huge as long as it is not vaporware

    10million hours!

    That's 1142 years of constant use!

    But it doesn't indicate how many write cycles it can endure, which is probably much more important.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    that's not how you view MTBF figures. More like that if you had 1000 drives running 24/7, 1 of those drives will fail within about 1.5 years. Someone with more experience should be able to give you a more accurate answer but you get the idea

    I think it's best to view it as an arbitrary/relative scale, i.e. a drive with a 100,000h MTBF will likely last longer than one with a 50,000 MTBF. But then how are they even worked out? I wouldn't rely on them as a meaningful way of determining how long something will last.

    With SSDs they'll soon be quoting how many firmware updates you can do before one bricks your drive.

    I've been running around 15 SSD drives since they first came out and have yet to see a failure. They are mostly SLC drives though.
