Edit: Ignore me i can't read properly :-(
Re: News - Apple iOS 4 to land today
take it the update for ipod touch is free as I\'m updating now and it didn\'t mention any costs. I had to pay for version 3.0 so find it strange if this doesn\'t cost anything.
Re: News - Apple iOS 4 to land today
Yes, it\'s free for the touch, i updated last night. I also remember Jobs stating that it would be a free update. I imagine the reason for making it free is to ensure we\'re all subjected to iAds.
I\'m doubly pleased as I was too cheapskate to upgrade to 3, so have been running on 2.2.1 for the last year - copy and paste yay!
Re: News - Apple iOS 4 to land today
The update fee was due to accountancy rules introduced under "Sarbanes-Oxley" after the Enron mess.
These have now been relaxed so Apple can legally offer free updates to iOS systems. I haven\'t read into the details, but I guess these updates are classed as full OS upgrades, where as iPod classics for example are just firmware updates.

OS4
Multitasking
- Jailbroken users have had that for the past 3-4 years
Folders
- Jailbroken users have had that for the past 3-4 years
User selectable backgrounds
- Jailbroken users have had that for ...well you get the picture
Multitasking is only for apps written to take advantage of it - i.e. hardly any.
- Unlike jailbroken true multitasking for all apps

Nokia Symbian users have had these since 2003 but that what the Apple marketing department is for.

You don't need viruses for an unjailbroken iPhone. You already have Steve Jobs restricting your life. :D

When I jailbroke my 3G, I multitasked and used custom springboards for about 3-4 days before restoring to stock firmware. It made the phone laggy as hell and murdered the battery life. Being able to do something doesn't equal being able to do it well.
