Really? So there is no alternative for computer maintenance services?

Never said they were less professional. I said it was the law of supply and demand for the services they offer, they charge what people will pay. It's basic economics.

The retailer has no duty to provide you or any other customer with value for money as their main concern. Their main concern is keeping the shareholders/investors happy and to do this by making profit. Making profit means in non competitive areas they can charge what they want, simple as that.

Are you a bit slow or are you deliberately puting words in my mouth?
I said there is a shortage of decent personal computer support people as the decent ones go to better paid IT jobs. I did not say, nor imply that PC world staff were any better. However when a service like adding memory is done, it doesn't matter how much the person doing it knows if they follow the procedures properly.
If you've got any sense at all, you'll take your PC to somebody local instead of this bunch of bandits.
Now you're changing the argument. If people want to go for a service they pay for per hour, they can take it to another place. If they want a flat rate repair with no chance of higher charges, they take it to PC world. If people are too stupid to look elsewhere before making that decision, that's their fault.

Back to the original point. Your attitude is prevalent throughout society and because of that, the qaulity of local IT support for people is generally very low and will remain so until people are prepared to pay decent money for an engineer to fix their kit rather than pester anyone they know that "knows computers" to do it for free.
That said, there are always exceptions to the rule. I know of someone that used to own their own shop that does personal IT support. His main business however is business IT support. He's very good. He charges £60 per hour and is pretty busy. There is a market there - it's just not very big.

I'm wondering what you'll do next. I know you were about to quote a load of parts of my previous posts out of context in an attempt to show me doing a U turn. I'm not even sure me posting this will stop you as you probably can't resist
