No chance of that, they still seem to be on the rise.
With not one, but two big releases in as many months (iphone/ipad) and selling out when the rest of the tech sector is struggling?
Certainly getting a huge amount of press, seems like a different story every day.
..when did you last read a microsoft story?
I've read that people got less "bars" when holding the phone but none complained about no having any reception at all.... Confusing...

Believe me though when I say, up till recently I've really just been neutral about Apple, been impressed with their stuff here and there (except the premium price). It's just their marketing campaigns and company "ethos" that has lately made me think, what the hell?! But then again a lot of people aren't even mildly technical so it's all good for them.
From what I read we can at least partially blame the FCC for this one, and other "tin hat wearing" organisations.
Apparently the FCC have been advising phone manufacturers to move the aerials away from the top of the phones, amidst fears about mobile phone radiation. Moving it to the bottom helps to reduce the SAR level and therefore makes these agencies happier (and apple look better in one light, as they can publish lower numbers).
This has had the consequence of making it easier for people to cause these attenuation problems..I mean this happens with all mobile phones if you hold them in a specific way, it just seems silly that with the iphone its such a common method of holding the phone that causes the effect. Apple clearly knew about it which is why they released the bumper.
It doesn't affect my use of the phone though, no call issues, no data issues..but regardless, stupid move by apple and I hope they do something about it.
edit: It's also worth mentioning that the so called "official statements" on the issue are not anything of the sort - they are /supposed/ emails from steve jobs in reply to queries by a website, and a "normal user". I'd wait for Apple PR's official response myself rather than an email which can easily be (and all to often is) faked.
It's all a marketting ploy so they can release a special left handed edition in a few months time...
Nice to see Job's reply though, gives an insight into how he see's his loyal customerbase...
all that needs to be said is 'excellent'.
Apple's solution: "just avoid holding it in that way"
http://iphonehold.tumblr.com
love it - how else can you hold it? It's so thin and friction free![]()
Thanks, now we can forgive Apple a little! It's the FCC causing Apple to make such a stupid design flaw!
Now, let me go and buy another phone that is subject to the FCC that actually works hahaha
edit - btw, there was an official statement from Apple, essentially they are telling their fans its their fault in holding the phone wrong hahaha
I like the way so-called tech blogs are putting it:
LOL WUT?But nothing's perfect. The people at Apple aren't superhuman. There aren't an infinite number of them. They have priorities, and they have to make choices.
It really doesn't take a super human to notice a problem like this and think, 'Oh wait, maybe we should fix it before we shove it on sale'
http://www.gearlog.com/2010/06/apple...hone_4_dea.php
Quite frankly, i'm feeling rather smug right now, i can hold my phone however i want, in fact i could probably shove it up my arse and i still wouldn't get that amount of signal attenuation...
Yet i still don't look as pompously smug as 80% of the people queueing up for 8 years to get a product that fails miserably at it's maiden purpose...
But oh wait, it's got a fruit on it, so it's obviously inherently better![]()

Well I for one wont be buying it now cause of this issue, a bit pathetic that this got released like this. When they said it uses the metal band you kind of think its more than the bottom corner.
-1 for apple this round
I think I will now wait to see what comes out from the new MS Mobile 7 camp in October. Android just seems to be too spread atm with its UI customised so much by hardware vendors making it fragmented.
