Re: News - Android 2.2 rolling out to Nexus Ones

At long last...I got impatient and went digging for the update file to do it manually only to find the google had withdrawn it.

Hopefully I'll get the OTA update sooner rather than later...though going by the previous update I'll be one of the last.

Ahh well easy tethering here we come!

BTW, what ever happened to the multi-colour trackball? I know you can get custom ROMs that activate this but...why did google turn this feature off?

Re: News - Android 2.2 rolling out to Nexus Ones

Just watched the video and I'm quietly impressed - particularly like the extra backup options (something that annoyed me about my iPod touch was that restoring the apps didn't seem to restore the settings very often - e.g. RadioTimes app). I can't see the moby companies being that happy about the hot-spot option - figure that'll be blocked (don't a lot of them prohibit this in their T&C's?)

Anyone got any views about the good and bad brands to choose if you want to keep current? Obviously Nexus One owners are going to be pretty quick off the mark, but how do the others compare, and is there a difference between Orange, T-Mobile, Voda, etc?

I'm aware that Sony-Ericsson seems to be slow off the mark with updates, but I'd be interested to hear if HTC, Motorola, Samsung, et al are better/worse. (Want to upgrade to Android, but not that impressed with the battery life on the N1).

Re: News - Android 2.2 rolling out to Nexus Ones

I got my "OTA" update early this morning.

    Posting this via Wi-Fi tethering.

Overall, I have to say the OS seems smoother; from home screen swipes to shifting between various applications. Next to the "menu" button is now a phone and web broswer button which...is kinda handy.
