    AT LAST!!
Someone finally realised you don't need eleventy million cables connecting one device to another device.

Too right ! I have far too many cables, I mean why create a new cable and port when a perfectly good one exists, like rj 45.

Eugh, making it even harder to keep your playback devices from phoning home. With this, if even one device has an internet connection (e.g. media streamer) all the others can piggyback off of it. At least with HDMI 1.4 you can disconnect the ethernet pins.

    Why not? Isn't cat5e rated at 1Gbps at 350m?

I'd imagine the DSP they're using is intelligent enough to negotiate power requirements before hand.

Yup, and we're probably talking 48v or so like PoE

So true... This sounds like it could be a fantastic technology, although I'm sure there's a fair amount of marketing hyperbole there that probably needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Either way, it feels like a step in the right direction - and the sooner a technology like this gets some serious traction the better if you ask me. Down with excess cables!
