Been looking forward to this. The apple mice, whilst perfection to look at, have always been a less than stellar to actually use... up until the Magic Mouse. Even that was not the perfect interface for gestures we have come to know and love on our notebooks.

I have absolutely no interest in Macs, but I really want to try this out. The idea of using it to easily browse web pages or other simple, listy-type documents is really cool. I already use my mouse in exactly this way (simple movements and scrolls) for browsing. Let's hope for some Windows drivers - and maybe a price drop.

£59 ? Might be of use with a media center maybe.

Apple also now selling rechargeable batteries and battery chargers:

In typical apple style - not mentioning battery capacity !!!

Who needs battery capacity information? It just works. Besides, it's an innovative feature for those who don't know much about battery capacities - making it the most advanced rechargeable battery ever.

Good for media center things but not really good for hard core work I think.

One thing I have yet to work out, and would dearly like explained, is why mouse movement in OS X feels so very wrong. It isn't "out of the box" on Linux or Windows...

Re: News - Apple's Magic Trackpad gets official

I would much prefer to have a cable than to have to worry about batteries. Ok with a mouse I can understand how wireless might help as you have to move it around the desk, however a trackpad stays in the same place! However you have to move it to charge it... if it had a cable you would not. Batteries always go flat when it most annoying, I really don't get this obsession with wireless for devices sat right next to the device. Mac keyboards have USB hubs on them, so whats the problem with a cable?

The cable creates a line that gives Steve Jobs a migraine whenever he uses a iMac.

Generally, I guess people just don't like seeing so much cables....

Re: News - Apple's Magic Trackpad gets official

Maybe I am one of a few oddballs but...I've tried using the trackpad on macbooks and er...they drive me potty. They really do. Anything I wanted to do was just awkward; nothing felt natural. This maybe totally different if you are born and bred on Apple hardware but for me, this product does not appeal to me in the slightest; and as others have alluded, why do you need a stationary control device to be wireless?

No doubt this product will sell like hot cakes like anything else branded with the half-eaten apple logo regardless if it has inherent faults
