Amazingly, I don't take mine on holiday. I go on holiday to get away from that kind of thing!

Ditto. Having had a memory card die on me in the past resulting in me losing 2 weeks of holiday pictures I always take my laptop (or netbook) with me.

Same here. I take my netbook just because it's small and easy to do so. Also useful for some surfing; especially as on my last holiday the airport went on strike and it was good to be able to research the options before BA finally told us what was going on!

I can use my smartphone for that - and it's even smaller.

Just come back from two weeks in Spain and hotel lobby areas were chocker with folks with the lappies busy pecking away. I'm with Steve - I can wait until my holiday's over for my fix of Hexus.

Of course, having a wife who'd give me major grief if I took a netbook on holiday is also a good reason to go internet-less for the duration.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Another good thing about the netbook is that I can review the day's photos on a bigger screen than the LCD one on my camera. I also like to keep a blog with photos if there's a decent Internet connection around.

On more long haul flights, I usually have my laptop on me, so I can watch what I want, and if needs be catch up on work.

When I was in Spain, my laptop stayed firmly at home. Absolute worse case, I always have my phone on me so can access/reply to emails.

TheAnimus, I'm now going to be seriously disappointed if we ever meet in person, and your rear isn't as superbly sculpted as that.

Re: News - Brits warm to holidaying with laptop

Personally I prefer to stay at home to get away from holidays. My (wider) family has gone to same place for my entire life, its a nice place in Wales but so boring. At least it is a bit better with mobile broadband but the signal isn't great there. Some people like feeling isolated, I don't I feel cut off from all the things I like.

By the time you turn that thing on and uploaded your photos, your holiday has finished and back at your job.

    Kill the non-believer.

(but yes, the non ssd versions are dog slow and pretty much have to be kept in sleep mode for a boot in under 60 seconds).

Errr, don't go to the same place then.

I like getting away, even if its just for one night, the bank holiday I'm going to Milan, its about a two hour flight, cheaper than the train to Manchester.

Also looking at popping over to the Netherlands for some cycling next month too.

Variety is the spice of life and all that, plus been english I speak every local language ever conceived.

Hehe, doesn't that thing get hot as well and the dot-pitch on that thing is tiny (good screen though)

Re: News - Brits warm to holidaying with laptop

I've had no difficulty using it in humid 45°C parts of this world now, but it does get warm yes (thou not uncomfortably, so not as badly as an iPad say).

And the dot pitch is extreme, which is a good thing.
(enless you just wanted to watch films in which case native would of course be best)
