Judging by the cut out in the bottom left corner of the picture there's something there that would give the game away, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say they've produced some kind of combination mouse and touch/trackpad device that uses a normal optical mouse innards to control the cursor with a multitouch minipad at the top (instead of a more conventional wheel) that accepts common "gestures" for scrolling, zooming etc.
edit: I just noticed that you cunningly patched the two pics together, which doesn't mean they're not hiding something, but does mean that they didn't deliberately cut something out of the picture
A raised mouse mat?
Microsoft hot water bottle?
Is it what they plug Steve Ballmer into pre-show to ensure a full-on sweat?
looks like a phone to me.
Aye, the cut out it is a camera..
The most recent tweet from Microsoft Hardware is "Love the excitement about our next product! Just remember, we make keyboards, webcams and miceā¦"
That has to rule out a phone. Surely a touchpad, then.
Having said, I love the idea of an inductive charger for Steve Ballmer!
Telefonica TBH...
With Win' phone 7 me thinkies...

It's the back of "Microsoft Slippers" - obviously that's the faux leather pad for your heel.
Too easy.
I know what it is - it's a "Make your own Microsoft Eye Patch"!
blu-ray drive for xbox :clapping:
It's a touch mouse.
As in you move it like a mouse, but the top of it's a touchpad (at least, that's my rough understanding). $70 to you, squire. Engadget have the story:
