Thats insane, 2x 8pin power connectors for a single chip card, why any gamer would get this over a 5970 is beyond me, unless they jizz there pants over Physx or have a folding farm and unlimited money.

Looks like they're getting a handle on the manufacturing process, which is letting them turn out chips closer to what they intended a few months ago.

Re: News - 512-core GeForce GTX 480 to offer 5% performance boost?

5% gain is obvious 480/512 equals 6.25% gain in cores. comparing gtx 480 (480 cores) Vs. gtx 285 (240 cores) thats 240/480 100% gain in cores. so when comparing cores/ performance, gtx 480 brought only 50% gain compared to previous gen. gtx 285.

So 6.25% more in course will probable get you 3.25% gain in performance. So 5% sounds great to me.

its called multi GPU scalability! cheaper 2 gtx 460s outperform 5970 and even two 5870s in crossfire.
its simple. cheaper and performs better. lol

They would not have intended a card that hungry for power - manufacturing process can't be that good if they still need it.

They've probably just been holding the 512 core capable ones back from sale until they have enough inventory. Sorting yields on the GF100 will take at least a complete respin.

I think we should reserve judgment till the official review comes out. I sincerely doubt that the advances they made on the 460 would be wasted for the revised 480.

You do understand the differences between the 460 and 480 right?
