Haha, well I'm happy to buck the trend.

I have an iPad. It's the only bit of Apple kit I own. I've never used or owned an iPod or an iPhone and don't have any computer made by them (past or present) either. I've used a bit of OSX here and there and I may - just may - get a Macbook Pro of some sort at some point (then again, I may not but I do like the unibody models.)

I bought the iPad on its own merits. The coverage of the launch annoyed me, as did much of its press since. I dismissed even the great Stephen Fry's eulogising of it. I wasn't taken in by marketing at all (unless Derren Brown has been involved somehow.) I went into an Apple store whilst killing time and played with an iPad pretty much by accident. I really liked what I saw. Three or four days later, I bought one.

I'm not a fan of Apple at all - I don't buy into the iCult thing and you certainly won't find me sitting in a Starbucks, wearing a polo neck and tapping away on my Macbook Air.* There are a few major negatives to the iPad (which are widely known) but for me, the positives outweigh them thus far. It's an expensive device but it's fun to use. I'm greatly enjoying using it but that's just me and I don't speak for anyone else (the device attracts equal amounts of frothing approbation to downright rejection and up to a couple of weeks ago I'd have been pointing and laughing along with the best of them.)

I've always been very sceptical about Apple and remain so in most ways but I do like my iPad.

*Nor has my iPad been anywhere but home and work.
