This could finally persuade me to upgrade from my trusty Q6600. Maybe.
Not that i particularly need much more performance, but reduced power consumption could be welcome.

Figures will be interesting. Wish they could stick to one or even two sockets though

I'll wait till proper figures come out. I plan on holding on to my Q6600 for as long as possible!

Nah, this is the chip that's lumbered with a duff intel GPU by default remember. On the i3/5 this seems to impact the performance negatively. I want the non-mass market version which doesn't use 1155

Glad I didnt upgrade tbh, and I also wish they'd stick to one socket design ffs, starting to stink of the Intel of old again...

Yep. Sure, there is probably quite a good reason for the socket change (to prevent misunderstanding as the motherboard chipset will have to be different), but AMD really have listened to people like us who want an nicer upgrade path. Bring on AM3r2

Any word on dual or triple channel memory and will all of these chips have a built in GPU?

For the variant of Sandy Bridge this article is talking about: dual channel and all have built in GPU.

Really? I'm not saying you are wrong, but can you link to any benchmarks? I hadn't heard this before.

I'm struggling to find it. From what I remember it was a comparison to the i5 750 in single threaded apps and the performance was worse than expected, they concluded it was either the decreased L3 cache or increased latency caused by the GPU. Both of which are likely to be the case for 1155 Sandy Bridge as well compared to the enthusiast part.

Re: News - Intel next-generation Sandy Bridge CPU details leaked?

Just found this through Wikipedia: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardwar...overclocking/1

Edit: oops, meant to post this on the newer thread about Sandy-Bridge.
