Over normal ADSL? No chance. BT Infinity - maybe, but I'm not willing to risk it to find out.

Virgin is the best provides in the UK hands down.

Doorbell wires will never be half as good and reliable as fiber.

I was one of the 17 people who complained. Could have picked any broadband ad really, they're all a pack of lies. Good to see some kind of regulation actually happening for once.

Re: News - BT broadband ads banned by ASA

BT have always been doing dodgy adverts ever since day 1.

When I was with BTopenwound back around 2000, they started advertising in PC gamer, PC Zone saying that ADSL was for gaming and had the bobsliegh advert stating that ping issues would be a thing of the past. However, this was not the case as I was expecting high latency ( in excess of 200-300 ms ) and as such could not use my ADSL for any gaming whatsoever.

I complained to their technical service who said this advert did not exist and kept saying ADSL was not for gaming, and after several weeks of going backwards and forwards to the numpties on the support line we ended up getting in contact with someone higher to escalate this and because we (me and Carlh - my brother) had logged all the calls, information and what was said and in the end we got in contact with a high ranking contact and after they stepped in we have a plethora of engineers visting, refunds applied and in the end we moved to Nildram and straight away the pings were sub 15 ms which we sent evidence to the nice chap at BT and he was very helpful.

That's the thing with BT. It's full of very nice people who know their job, locked in a small cell with an incontinent gibbon called Charles.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

As a BT employee I can confirm that I am locked in a room right now with several oranutangs. I cannot for the life of me work out where you got gibbons from.

Re: News - BT broadband ads banned by ASA

Ah, BT, always polishing that turd for TV...

Someone rang up from them to sell me FTTC internet the other day. It was exciting, but then I said 'what's your fair usage policy?' 100GB he said. When I recovered from laughing, I spent a couple of minutes politely trying to explain why that's absolutely pathetic, then put the phone down.
You just can't offer a premium product like that and get it so fundamentally wrong...
It also makes me rage that they keep saying 20 Meg is faster than 8 Meg for gaming. BT being one of the worst ISPs for ping, that's pretty poor...

I wonder what the percentage of all the connections on "up to x-meg" services actually get anywhere near the quoted speed, we know the average is something like 3.36mbit..

    I'm guessing under 10%..

Re: News - BT broadband ads banned by ASA

I think a recent study showed it to be 5.5 Meg as the national average from what I heard. On the basis that effectively all ISPs offer up to 20 meg connections now, that'd be an average of 23-28%.
I have two Be unlimited 24meg lines at 19% and 29% respectively, but I didn't choose them for 24 meg, I chose them for solid service, £18/month and a good fair usage policy
