Re: News - AMD finally ditches ATI brand

TBH its a sad day to see ATI finally disappear, never ever liked AMD buying them. In my view at least ATI was a better name and company than AMD.

    RIP ATI.

Stopped using AMD CPU's a while ago when I got rid of my old x2 4200, suppose they'll be back in my machine now after my next GPU upgrade..

Calling a CPU chipset "VISION"? That's just asking for trouble. :3

Re: News - AMD finally ditches ATI brand

I'm not sure I like this. It will re-enforce the idea that you can't use their graphics cards on Intel systems.

Can't nvidea rename themselves instead? I have a mental block when it comes to typing or even spelling their name.

Bit odd for them to use an Intel processor sticker for their photos. Are they just admitting that if you want a decent processor, get an Intel?

Re: News - AMD finally ditches ATI brand

They need to re-design the AMD logo and rebrand if they are going to drop ATi. They can't keep the current one it's so dated.

Re: News - AMD finally ditches ATI brand

Probably as Funkstar said, desperately trying to convince people that Intel != nVidia, which will really hurt them given how many CPUs Intel sell.

Re: News - AMD finally ditches ATI brand

    This is bad.

Rather than trying to keep the Radeon name, couldn't they have ditched it and kept ATi instead.

Even though AMD make the chips, it's not going to be the same saying AMD HD3450 instead of ATi HD3450 for example.

Btw, what will happen to Ruby?!

So fusion dies out before 2011 according to that diagram ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

How about just saying Radeon 3450? I couldn't care less about ATi, and it's been years since they have been a proper brand, only the corpse has stopped being fooked now - so we can just have a proper funeral.

Re: News - AMD finally ditches ATI brand

Well as someone who still calls Snickers bars Marathons, I'll probably still call them ATI Radeons in my head. There are a lot of silly rebrandings going on*,I suggest that this is yet another.

*I know global branding plays a role in the Marathon->Snickers, Jif->Cif, Oil of Ulay->Olay etc. processes but I still think they all sound worse.Plus I never want to eat anything by Dr Oetker. The very name conjures up images of Bavarian, vivisectionist-laboratory-castles, nestling at the top of lightning-scarred mountains. I suspect that I may have digressed a little. Ahem

It's a lot easier to market one brand than two.

Re: News - AMD finally ditches ATI brand

its about time too really. AMD paid too much for ATI and imo saved them anyway. looking forward to what the future may bring.

it's the end of ATI a brand that was meaningless since AMD took over anyway this is the final nail in the coffin that was already buried.

on that note.. bobcat looks amazing!
