£51 + VAT is a little steep compared to their previous GPU coolers. If the high prices on mid to high end GPUS already, this is a steep addition.
unfortunately 250w of heat isn't that much, needs more like 400w for a 480 or 470
Typo?the Accelero XTREME Plus can keep a Radeon HD 5870 only 18° above ambient temperatures at 2,000RPM
At 22c ambient this would make the 5870 hit only 40c under full load. Most watercooled setups run hotter.
According to the press release, they had it running at 41c at room temperature (if memory serves). That could be at idle, to be fair, since it didn't specify. At the same time, the stock cooler was 77c under the same settings, so perhaps not.
£51 including VAT, so slightly more reasonable, but still expensive£51 + VAT is a little steep
Me too. Hopefully we'll get our hands on one. If nothing else, I'd love to test it on my louder than the bowels of hell 4870Like to see some reviews
I agree it's somewhat of a beast, so will clearly beat stock cooling by some margin.
At this time I'm sure a lot of potential buyers (myself included) will be looking to pair this with the soon to be released AMD 6870. If it doesn't fit we'll have to wait another 6+ months for a dedicated cooler.
Back to the drawing board eh?
I wonder if that means it can actually be mounted to a card. If so, it'd be the first graphics cooler Arctic have produced in several years that does not destroy the card it's attached to in 20%+ of cases. I can forgive a major design flaw in one product from a company, but for more than half a dozen products to have critical design flaws that destroy hardware and go unfixed, I always campaign people never to buy AC graphics coolers and will continue to do so for the forseeable.
Not really trolling here, but this is something reviewers almost never pick up on, yet a quick google highlights just how severe the problem is. I don't like people being tricked into buying bad products...
Considering the pair of DOA 4GB 5970s, one of which started burning as soon as it was powered, I do wonder if that actually was wise...
Yeah you saw the 4870X2 cooler reviews, look for the HD5970 ones. As if this were possible, they're worse. Much worse. It's about an 80-90% failure rate. Absolutely appalling.
I've bought an AC cooler...it was easy to install, and had an excellent cooling performance...I would recommend them...as for cards dying after power up, I reckon it's more like an user error.
Actually it isn't, it's due to a flawed mounting system that means you need to leave the cooler loosely attached (to the extent it will almost fall off), if you tighten the screws any further you will crush or short (depending on the cooler) critical components.
Which cooler did you buy?
