I was all set to get this then I saw the price...UK gets ripped off again. I'll probably wait a bit for it to drop

Ooh that's relatively cheap!
We got the £429 figure from Nokia's main Uk website though...promise!

Symbian did define and start the smart phone train 8/9 years ago.
Its very very daft of Nokia to offer the new N8 with all its power and only using Symbian. After years of people stating it not up to the task any more , Nokia still throw it on their new flag ship phone.
They have to throw something in the interim period before MeeGo and Symbian 4 hit their products next year. Personally I'm not going to waste my money on this. It probably will be good as a Symbian product, the camera on it has produced some stunning results. Just let down by a clunky OS by todays standards.
TBH this is Nokia just chucking something our way. Its released too late and now only the die hard fans care about it. If you need a phone now, Android OS is the best bet, or if you have the money to waste er spend, an iPhone. Actually Windows Phone 7 will be released at the same time as this!
I appreciate that the Symbian UI looks a bit dated, and is somewhat clunky, but I'd note that it's still very adequate for certainly what a lot of business users want; they seem largely to want a "smart-ish" phone that does push email, maybe GPS, maybe some web-browsing, can take a decent photo and has a decent battery life. I have had way more gripes from other smartphone platforms (including Android!) than I ever get from the (many more) users of E-series business phones that we have here.
Oh yeah, totally agree. My E71 does everything I want it to do, from perfectly working emails, to calender entries and synchronise.
Thats the one good thing about Symbian, is its so mature, it just works.
